Preparing for the Big Day: The "Detail Box" and Beyond

Groomsman and Wedding Photography

The morning of your wedding is a whirlwind of champagne, hairspray, and nervous excitement. It’s also when some of the most precious, candid moments happen. To make sure we capture that "calm before the storm" beauty, a little preparation goes a long way.

The Power of the "Detail Box"

When I first arrive, I typically spend the first 30–45 minutes photographing your "details." These are the small, curated items that tell the story of your wedding style. To save time and ensure nothing is missed, gather these items into a single box the night before:

  • The Stationery: Two full sets of your invitation suite (including envelopes and stamps).

  • The Rings: All three! Engagement ring and both wedding bands.

  • Jewelry & Accessories: Earrings, necklaces, your veil, and your shoes.

  • Sentimental Items: Family heirlooms, "something blue," or a special perfume bottle.

  • Floral Scraps: Ask your florist to drop off a few loose blooms or greenery sprigs with your bouquets. This allows me to style your rings and invitations to match your floral design perfectly.

Light is Everything

When choosing where to get ready, look for a room with large windows and light-colored walls. Dark, windowless rooms require heavy flash, which can lose that airy, romantic "morning-of" feel. If your hotel room is small, don't worry—just try to keep the area near the largest window clear of suitcases, plastic water bottles, and garment bags. A clean space allows the focus to remain on the emotion of the moment.

The "Hype Crew" Management

Your bridesmaids and groomsmen are there to support you, but a crowded room can sometimes lead to stress. I recommend having your "inner circle" (Mom, Maid of Honor, etc.) get dressed about 15 minutes before you do. This ensures that when it’s time for the "putting on the dress" photos, everyone in the background looks polished and ready, rather than in their pajamas.

Trust the Timeline

The "getting ready" portion of the day often runs behind. If hair and makeup take longer than expected, don't panic. My job is to pivot and find the beauty in the rush. Take a moment to breathe, stay hydrated, and remember that the day is about your union, not just the schedule.

journey

What does a typical session include?

Every package includes a vision board, wardrobe discussions, scenic options, and a clear set of deliverables.

How quickly will I get my photos?

Typical turnaround time is 3-4 weeks. We love sharing in your excitement, so we aim to provide a tease within 2-3 days. We take a holistic approach where communication serves as the bedrock of our client relationship. This means that if we complete post production ahead of schedule, we will deliver your session early.

What sets you apart?

Most photographers treat each session like a checklist - same posses, same filters, same photo presets. We believe that your photos should be as unique as you are, we ensure that every photo session is one-of-a-kind.

How many photos do I get?

Traditionally, photo packages include a set number of photos. We consider this highly inefficient, if you take 50 great photos, why should we make you choose between 10? Instead of giving you a cap, we will give you a minimum. This empowers our clients to expect a minimum number of photos where you look your best!
